What Is Orthopaedic Massage?

What Is Orthopaedic Massage?

Orthopaedic massage is a hands-on treatment that works directly on the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues contributing to pain, tension, stiffness, or restricted movement. Your therapist begins each session with a brief assessment to identify the source of the problem and which tissues are involved. From there, treatment is applied specifically to those areas using targeted manual techniques designed to help release tension, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and restore normal movement patterns. Whether you are dealing with a recent injury, post-surgical recovery, or ongoing discomfort, orthopaedic massage addresses the underlying cause rather than just providing temporary relief.

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthopaedic Massage

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthopaedic Massage

Orthopaedic massage begins with an assessment to identify the root cause of your pain or movement restriction. Based on these findings, your therapist will recommend a targeted treatment plan and an appropriate number of sessions. Unlike general or relaxation-based massage, orthopaedic massage is goal-oriented and focused on specific tissues related to your condition.

60% of pain is referred pain. An assessment helps us determine where your symptoms are coming from, what is contributing to the issue, and ensures that nothing important is overlooked in your treatment.

Assessment time varies depending on your condition and whether you’ve been previously assessed at Access Orthopaedics. It typically takes between 5-25 minutes. Our priority is to maximize hands-on treatment time while making sure nothing gets missed.

The treatment is designed to be gentle and relaxing, however you might experience tenderness in injured or spasmed tissues. The goal is to encourage tissue healing and remodeling without causing excessive discomfort.

Patients can book a treatment online via a platform called Jane or call our office at 587 355 3090 ext. 3 to speak to one of our friendly patient care coordinators.

Appointments are $120 for 60 minutes and $80 for 30 minutes.
