Dr. Schachar received her medical degree from the University of Calgary in 2008 and completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Calgary in 2014. She completed fellowships in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction at the University of Toronto in 2015, and with the Banff Sports Medicine Group in 2016. Before attending medical school, Dr. Schachar received a Bachelor of Science in exercise and health physiology and a Master of Science in skeletal muscle biomechanics.
Dr. Schachar has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. She is actively involved in undergraduate medical education at the University of Calgary as an instructor in the musculoskeletal undergraduate curriculum and as a mentor in the medical student mentorship program.
Dr. Schachar was a national level synchronized swimmer and represented Canada in several competitions. In 2005, she won gold medals at the World Masters Games in both the team and duet events. After finishing her career in the pool, she went on to coach the sport for ten years.
She has two young boys who keep her busy! When she is not working, Dr. Schachar can be found on the ski slopes chasing powder most winter weekends, or mountain biking and paddleboarding during the summer.
