Clear Answers Through EMG Testing in Calgary

Unexplained muscle weakness, numbness, tingling, or nerve pain can be unsettling, especially without a clear diagnosis. Our EMG clinic in Calgary offers diagnostic EMG testing and nerve conduction studies to identify the cause of your symptoms. EMG (electromyography) measures the electrical activity in your muscles, while nerve conduction studies measure how well and how fast signals travel along your nerves — together, these tests help pinpoint whether your symptoms are coming from a nerve, muscle, or spinal issue.

These neurodiagnostic tests are performed by experienced clinicians and interpreted alongside your broader clinical picture, giving your care team the objective, detailed information needed to build a clear, personalized plan.

Our EMG clinicians work closely with your referring physician or specialist to coordinate your results and determine the most appropriate next steps.

Meet Your EMG Clinicians

Our EMG clinicians perform diagnostic testing to assess nerve and muscle function.

What to Expect

Your EMG test involves two components. The nerve conduction study uses small electrode patches on the skin to measure the speed and strength of electrical signals through specific nerves. The EMG component involves inserting a fine-needle electrode into specific muscles to assess their activity at rest and during movement.

Your clinician will explain each step as it happens, and the test will be performed carefully at a pace that’s comfortable for you.

Following your appointment, your results will be reviewed and communicated to your referring provider to inform the next steps in your care.

Please note: A referral from a physician or specialist is required for EMG testing.

The nerve conduction study involves brief, mild electrical stimulation, often described as light tapping or tingling. The EMG component involves a fine needle inserted into the muscle, which may cause temporary discomfort. Most patients tolerate the test well.
Most appointments take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the number of nerves and muscles being assessed.
Avoid applying lotions or creams to the area being tested, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area.
