Denise Mackey

MD, FRCSC

Dr. Denise Mackey is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, with particular interests in upper-extremity trauma, arthroscopic surgery, and shoulder replacement.

Dr. Mackey completed her undergraduate degree in Human Biology and Bioethics at the University of Toronto before earning her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Ottawa in 2006. She completed her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of British Columbia in 2011, during which she participated in international trauma and paediatric orthopaedic training in Uganda and India.

She subsequently completed fellowship training in shoulder surgery with the Sydney Shoulder Specialists in Australia.

Dr. Mackey practised general orthopaedic surgery in Prince George, BC, with a focus on shoulder and elbow conditions, before relocating to Calgary. She is currently a Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Calgary and serves as the Shoulder and Elbow Education Lead for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.

Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and surgical management of shoulder and elbow conditions, including traumatic injuries, degenerative disorders, arthroscopic procedures, and shoulder reconstruction and replacement.
